On the 14th of October, NC State Air Force ROTC held the annual Dining-In event at Pullen Park. With good food, games and fun with wingmen, the event was ultimately a success. Cadet Liam Williams headed the project along with his staff, and the traditions of the grog, rhymes and laughs were all present. In addition to the events, Detachment 595 had the honor of having Colonel Joseph H. Stepp IV, an NC State alumni, as the guest speaker this year.
Colonel Stepp served for two years as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer at Cannon Air Force Base, N.M. prior to joining the North Carolina Air National Guard in 1996. After completion of pilot training, Col Stepp served as C-130H3 Instructor and Evaluator Pilot, Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System Instructor Pilot, Chief of Weapons and Tactics, Chief of Wing Plans and Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Commander.
Colonel Stepp is currently the commander of the 145th Operations Group at the North Carolina Air National Guard base, Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Col Stepp now leads more than 455 Airmen that are trained to execute a broad range of peacetime and combat missions throughout the state, nation and world, including Air Force C-130 airlift and airdrop operations, aeromedical evacuation and aerial firefighting missions.
Detachment 595 gives much appreciation for Colonel Stepp’s visit and we welcome him home to the Wolfpack!
